LG Micro RGB Evo review: Cool, bright, and not so budget-friendly

The TV supports 100 percent of the BT.2020 color gamut specifications, DCI-P3And Adobe RGB. Very few films actually meet the BT.2020 specifications, but I have tested a few that do meet the BT.2020 specifications, e.g. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Inside outBoth are on Disney+. Each looked amazingly colorful.

As a first test of the new micro RGB technology, I ran the usual test Spears and Maunsell Reference tests. Skin tones looked amazing, easily besting the Hisense UR9, Sony Bravia 7 II, and TCL RM9L in terms of color contrast. Light skin tones didn’t look washed out, and there was nice color differentiation.

A scene with a fence has bright green grass in the background, something that is often less noticeable with an older LED or QLED TV. The yellow flower seemed more vibrant to me than that one Just about any artsy TV I’ve tested recently. Sunset scenes looked incredibly vibrant, which is proof positive that the micro RGB technology is working overtime. However, OLED displays still have the upper hand in contrast, displaying black trees more clearly in the dark mountain foreground.

With this TV, picture modes affect what you see in terms of contrast and brightness. Filmmaker mode was more accurate, but Vivid and CinemaHome modes worked better to highlight browns, purples, and other dark colors. Only in those modes did the white mist on the snowy mountain look clear and distinct.

To test movies by contrast, I watched Awake On Netflix and creator on the Fandango at Home app, because each one has dark scenes that turn regular LED displays into mush. Interestingly, in Vivid mode on this LG device, there is a bike scene Awake It looked better than I’ve seen on an OLED TV in terms of contrast, and perhaps with a little too much saturation. The LG has dozens of color temperature, hue, and white balance settings, so I was able to reduce the saturation. in creatorThe pre-dawn scene looked beautifully blue and could be seen near the ocean. Tron: Ares On Disney+ it beat the Hisense UR9 in terms of blacks and deep reds, but only in Vivid Picture mode.
