Lenovo’s redesigned ThinkPad Detachable tablet has a larger screen and a legitimate keyboard

Lenovo announces five new ThinkPads and a new ThinkBook laptop for MWC 2026. There are several new chip offerings and updates to this lineup of ThinkPads, but the one I find most interesting is the X13 Detachable. We haven’t seen a major update to Lenovo’s tablet-style ThinkPad in years, when it was X12 detachable.

New releases (and starting prices) are:

Compared to its predecessor, the X13 Detachable offers Intel Panther Lake chip options and has a larger 13-inch touchscreen with a 3:2 aspect ratio, 2880 x 1920 resolution, and a 120Hz variable refresh rate. Its keyboard cover features full-size, more contoured keycaps, and a much deeper 1.5mm key travel – making it feel like a keyboard ripped straight from a proper ThinkPad. The pen is now inside the keyboard, where it is charged via pogo pins. This seems like a nice improvement over the last generation pen’s reliance on an AAAA battery, hanging off the side of the keyboard on a small nylon loop.

As for other ThinkPads, the new ThinkPad T14 and T16 feature smaller bezels around their displays compared to the last generation, and can be configured with the latest Intel and AMD chipsets (Panther Lake for Intel and Gorgon Point for AMD). In addition, Intel versions are used LPCAMM2 RAM instead of traditional DDR5 memory, which should be more power efficient while remaining upgradeable and easy to repair. Speaking of easy repair, the T14 and T16 also feature user-replaceable batteries.

The new ThinkPad T14S is the lightest T-series ThinkPad yet, at 2.43 lbs/1.1 kg (lighter than a MacBook Air). It’s also the most flexible in configuration, as it will be offered with Intel Panther Lake, AMD Gorgon Point, and even Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Plus or X2 Elite processors. The T14S also comes in a slightly heavier 2-in-1, though that will only come with the Intel Panther Lake chipset. The same goes for the new ThinkBook 14 2-in-1.

All of these new laptops come with Windows 11, but the ThinkPad T14, T14S, T16, and X13 Detachable will also be sold with Linux in some regions (except for the Qualcomm-based T14S, which runs Windows on Arm). All of these devices are scheduled to launch in the second quarter of 2026, except for the X13 Detachable, which is scheduled to launch in the third quarter.
