KitchenAid calls the new Artisan Plus Stand Mixer its biggest appliance upgrade since 1955. If you’ve ever been frustrated by the limited speed settings on the brand’s signature mixers, you might agree. Not only does the new Artisan Plus offer an additional half-speed setting to gently fold and combine ingredients like egg whites and berries, it also features a redesigned control lever for precise speed selection among its 11 presets.
the Speed control lever It’s now covered by a knob on the end that can be turned a quarter turn to loosen the baffles that normally limit its movements to jumping between the 11 presets. Alternate mode allows the lever to slide smoothly up and down the scale, opening up precise speed adjustments for the mixer. While previous versions of the blender used an electromechanical control system inside, the new Artisan Plus features a microcontroller-based system with a Hall effect sensor for greater precision.
Other upgrades include a downward-pointing LED light inside the bowl that is set by KitchenAid to a specific color temperature and intensity to make ingredients look as appetizing as possible. It turns off automatically when the mixer is tilted up, but can be activated manually using the redesigned joystick. The Artisan Plus also comes with a new whisk that uses silicone edges to scrape the sides of the bowl while mixing. It is only compatible with the new mixer as its upgraded electronics detect the additional friction and automatically increase the motor power to maintain the desired speed.
