Instagram now lets you swap the music in your old posts

Instagram announced on Tuesday that users can now toggle the music in their shared posts and carousels. Until now, users could only change the music in a post by deleting it and then re-uploading it.

With the newly launched Replace Audio tool, users can update the music in their posts at any time while maintaining the existing likes, comments, shares, and reach of the post. The Meta-owned company says the new feature is another step in its effort to build tools that give creators more creative control over their content.

The update removes the restriction that forced creators and brands to choose between keeping a post shared and updating its soundtrack. In some cases, changing the song can help keep the content in line with trends. Other times, people may want to update old posts to reflect their evolving music tastes.

The new feature can be accessed by going to the post in which you want to change the sound, then clicking on the two-line menu in the upper right corner of the post. You’ll then need to scroll down to Edit, after which you’ll see the option to toggle audio.

Instagram has been criticized over the years for offering controversial features that many users never wanted, so it makes sense that the social media giant would now add a small but meaningful feature that people might actually find useful.
