Instagram is cracking down on aggregator accounts that flood your feed with content they didn’t uniquely create or meaningfully alter. The company’s originality guidelines, which previously applied to Reels, will now extend to photos and carousel posts, making more accounts that post fundamentally unoriginal content ineligible for recommendations.
Instagram aims to give more credit to original content creators with this change. For every a Thursday’s blog postAccounts will not appear in places where Instagram recommends content if they primarily upload the work of others without “adding meaningful creative input.” It’s not enough to simply add a border or mention the original creator in the caption.
Aggregators who become ineligible can check their account status to get an update on their status and can become eligible again if most of their recent posts are deemed authentic within a 30-day period.
The way Instagram shows you content from the accounts you follow doesn’t change. Photos or videos you took and content you physically created or edited are considered original content, according to the company.
