“I don’t like to wait too long until marriage,” says De Bucci, who has traveled alone to more than 20 countries. “In my group of friends, everyone is like that. It’s very normal.” One of her friends runs an event called Hot, holy, healed For Christian women where De Buchi sells Her jewelry Under her own name. She says the brand gives 10 percent of every sale to anti-human trafficking organizations.
For De Buchi, the mission is directly related to how she thinks about sex itself. “There is such a culture of sexism and perversion more than ever before, and people think that means more freedom,” she says. “But I actually think it’s the opposite.”
At the same time, she didn’t think she would wait that long to have sex, having assumed she would get married in her early twenties.
She met her boyfriend on the joint a year and a half ago. She has been open about her abstinence from the beginning. They don’t have slumber parties. “I don’t want to play domestic with someone before I marry them,” she says. “I think that’s something you should look forward to.”
She’s launching a podcast called The gypsy virginbecause she couldn’t find anything that addressed the practical reality of preparing for sex after marriage when you’ve been waiting for it your whole life. She reads about sex, owns lingerie, and dances—small ways to stay in touch with the sexuality she plans to use. “I think I may have repressed it for a long time, because maybe it’s easier. But I want to be in touch with myself,” she says.
De Buchi wants to make it clear that she’s not just sitting around waiting for a husband. It has a job, a mission, a community. “No one should complete you,” she says. “They should add to your life.”
