I’m fascinated by Lenovo’s desktop AI companions, and I could use their help

How well are you able to concentrate at work? For me, it largely depends on how I’m feeling that day, what’s on my mind as well as a variety of other factors. One technique I use fairly successfully to stay focused is: Pomodoro timeAnd in Mobile World Congress 2026 I’ve found what I think could be the perfect companion to the AI Pomodoro.

I saw Lenovo’s Magic Bay Tiko for the first time last year MWCBut at the time it was just a concept. The small circular unit sits on top of your Lenovo laptop’s screen, and attaches via the magnetic Magic Bay on the back. The unit is home to an adorable animated companion named Tiko, who you can interact with via text or voice messages.

Accessories containing AI agents are becoming increasingly popular, especially in the wearables space, where many companies have begun offering brooches and pendants. They can perform a variety of tasks, such as life recording and transcription. They can also perform tasks for you, such as adding things to your calendar or checking your calendar to see if you’re busy.

Tiko has a number of standard AI capabilities – it can play and stop music, open a web page for you, or answer a question. You can also interact with it using emojis. Give him a book emoji, for example, and he’ll pop over his glasses and sit with you to read while you work. But my favorite feature of the Tiko effectively turns it into a body-doubling companion, which I feel will come in handy for keeping me on track on distracted days.

Don’t tell me this little guy won’t make you want to stay on track.

Body doubling is a technique in which you work alongside another person – either physically or virtually – to keep you on track and accountable. The Tiko comes with a timer, allowing you to track a focused working session. When you need a break, you can switch to a “wellness break” for 10 minutes of relaxation before continuing. You can also choose to add one minute of breathing exercises, which Tiko will do with you, to keep you calm.

The traditional Pomodoro timer is 25 minutes of work followed by a 5-minute break, but this is flexible. I’m fascinated by the idea of the physical appearance of a timer sitting above my screen, with a cute animated friend to help keep me in check.

The good news for me is that Tiko is no longer a concept from Lenovo. The company wants to sell the Magic Bay accessory later this year – although it doesn’t know exactly when or how much it will cost. The less good news is that you’ll need a Lenovo laptop with a Magic Bay port, which I don’t. It may be impractical to consider buying a new laptop just for Tiko, but that might matter if you’re already in the market for one.

Lenovo AI Workmate concept

Lenovo’s AI Workmate concept is still a work in progress.

Another Lenovo AI companion concept that remains a concept for now is AI Workmate. This is a kind of stationary tabletop robot, not unlike a Pixar lamp, but with a ball for the head.

Using a combination of cameras, microphones, and projectors, AI Workmate can do a variety of tasks, including helping you create and present presentations or convert your written work or art into a digital asset.

I asked a coworker to give me a presentation about giraffes. Using Lenovo’s own templates, she created a three-slide presentation titled “The Majestic Giraffe: Nature’s Long Mystery.” It was factually accurate, as far as I could tell, albeit disappointingly picture-free. It’s a robotic head that rotates and displays slides on the wall next to me.

I also asked a co-worker to create a Barcelona postcard for me. I laid out the work on the table in front of me, and wrote some text on top. The co-worker then scanned the entire photo, including my writing, and sent it straight to the printer for me, leaving me with a tangible souvenir to take away from our encounter.

I can’t say I’d necessarily want something big and bulky on my desk, and I’m not entirely sure what practical use I’m making of the AI Workmate concept at this point. But it’s been fun to play with, and it’s interesting to see how tech companies are imagining ways to bring AI into physical life so they can help us with our work.
