iFixit Trump phone teardown confirms it’s an HTC scam

After getting his hands on Trump’s phone and tearing it up, iFixit confirmed what I said first Reported back in February: The T1 is an almost exact copy of the HTC U24 Pro.

iFixit Partnered with NBC to acquire Sample of network media From Trump’s phone, along with the U24 Pro. They ran the phones through a CT scanner, tore them apart, and then put them back together into a functional Frankenstein phone with a U24 Pro panel inside the T1’s body, confirming along the way that the two phones were functionally identical.

There are minor differences: the flash has been moved slightly, the speaker grille has been modified, and the chipset package – although the same in specifications – is provided by Micron for the Trump phone, and SK Hynix for the HTC phone. The biggest change has to do with the battery: The Trump phone’s cell is slightly larger, and made in the Philippines rather than China, though it supports slower 30W charging.

We’ve long suspected that the T1 Phone is a match for the U24 Pro, given that both phones share a distinct body design, nearly identical specs, and identical headphone jacks and microSD card slots. iFixit’s work here almost confirms that.

HTC previously told Edge It “does not design or manufacture phones for third parties”, but has not confirmed any details about the manufacturing of the U24 Pro. Given that HTC It sold most of its smartphone business to Google In 2017, it seems likely that it contracted with an outside company to design and manufacture the U24 Pro, and Trump Mobile turned to the same company for its T1 phone.
