Brought Apple AI Notice Summaries For news and entertainment apps that support Apple Intelligence technology iPhone When the company issued iOS 26 in September 2025. Apple disabled these summaries in early 2025 after BBC indicated in December 2024 The feature distorted the media organization’s notifications and displayed inaccurate information.
What’s different about these summaries in iOS 26 is that your device settings warn you that the summaries may be inaccurate. Your device will notice that you should check the information in these summaries, and the best way I can think of to do that is to tap the notification and read the story. This may defeat the purpose of summaries for some people, but it may also ensure that people read beyond the headline.
You must enable AI summaries on your device. If you do, here’s what to know about it and how to turn it off again.
After I updated to iOS 26, I was greeted with some splash screens asking for different permissions. One of the splash screens was for AI notification summaries. When you see this screen, you have two options: Select notifications to summarize or not now. If you click not nowthe splash screen disappears.
If you click Select notifications to summarize, You’ll be taken to a new page where you’ll see three categories: News and Entertainment, Communications and Social, and All Other Apps. Tapping one of these categories opens notification summaries for apps in that category. Below the News and Entertainment category, there is a warning that is highlighted in red if you click on it.
“Summarization may change the meaning of the original title,” the warning reads, adding “verification of information.”
There’s also a warning at the bottom of the screen that reads, “This is an experimental feature. Summaries may contain errors.”
After clicking on the categories you want, click Summarize selected notifications across the bottom of your screen. If you select All Categories, this button will read Summarize all notifications.
If you don’t want these summaries, you can click Do not summarize notifications. If you allow these summaries and don’t like them, you can easily turn them off. Here’s how.
1. handle Settings.
2. handle Notifications.
3. handle Summarize notifications.
4. Click on Summarize notifications Switch.
Now you will not see any summary notifications. If you want to turn on AI notification summaries again, follow the steps above again. You’ll have to select the categories you want these summaries for again as well.
