How to hide files and folders on Windows

Although your Windows computer should be well closed by password or even a kind of Vital protectionIt is impossible to ensure that no one else can reach it, whether it is a thief wiping the unbelievable laptop from a café or one of your children who want to play some games while you are doing something else.

Whatever the reason, knowing how to hide files and folders from the display can be really useful. These files will not appear while browsing regular files, and it will be difficult to find even if someone is looking for them specifically.

You have an option to do so, starting with the features included in the file explorer to third -party options.

Using a Windows file explorer

Windows display displays the width methods of the folder and a list of folds, including one

You can hide files and folders inside the file explorer.

By default, the Windows file explorer hides some files and folders from the display. These are important system files, which should not be accessed or edited. You can see these files and folders if you want:

  • From any window window, click the three points in the upper toolbar.
  • Click Options In the list that emerges.
  • on view Tab, empowerment View files, folders and hidden engines.
  • Click Yes To confirm.

To hide any of your files or folders:

  • Right -click the file or folder.
  • He chooses Ownership From the context list.
  • on general Tab, check out Disappeared fund.
  • Click Yes To confirm.

As long as the file explorer is formed to not display the hidden files and folders, the elements that you identified will not be visible. This applies anywhere the file explorer is used – so in dialog boxes to open files inside the applications, for example.

It is a fast and easy way to protect files and folders that you don’t want to see, but it is hardly the safest – anyone knows how about file files will be able to show hidden files again. If you need something more comprehensive, you will have to resort to a third party tool.

Windows display viewing the folder lock app with designer designer designer desktops, OneDrive cabinet, cloud, synchronization, sharing, secrets, protection.

The folder lock protects the files and folders specified by password.

There are many third -party tools to choose from here, which do not hide many of your files and folders like locking them from the display. If someone has reached your Windows system, they will be able to see that something is hidden, but they will not be able to get everything you have closed.

The best option I used personally is Folder. It is clear and reliable, and although there is a professional version, you can get $ 39.95, the free version will be enough for most people. You can get a 1 GB area inside your wardrobe, and you can keep it sync between two devices.

During the preparation process, asks you about where you want to store your cabinet. It is good to be buried deeply in some sub -folders instead of sitting in a prominent place like the desktop. You also need to specify an email address and a password to reach the digital cabinet.

If the folder lock is not running, your wardrobe will not be visible in the file explorer. To add files to your cabinet and know what you have stored in, run the application from the Start menu and log in. By default, your wardrobe is opened automatically in the file explorer (in the settings, you can change it until it sits on the home screen instead if you want):

  • Pull the files and folders to the cabinet folder to hide them.
  • Double click on the closed files and folders to open them.
  • To hide everything, click lock On the folder lock plate.

Whenever your cabinet is opened, it works like any other folder in Windows. You can delete files, repeat files, copy them, and paste them in the normal way. Once it locks or closes the folder lock, fades from the width.

The program also includes a Secrets The section, where you can store passwords, notes and credit card information, and a protection feature for securely tearing digital files (writing on it with random data, mainly).

Everything is encrypted with AES 256 -bit encryption and you can copy your cabinet to the cloud storage service (such as OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox) to get additional peace of mind.
