Homebridge 2.0 has arrived, and it’s about substance

“There are two use cases we are targeting:

Use Case 1 – Fill gaps in HomeKit device support: Apple is starting to use Matter for new device types instead of adding it to HomeKit directly. Vacuum cleaners are a recent example — Apple added vacuum support to the Home app, but via Matter, not HomeKit. Our goal is to bridge this gap so that Homebridge plugins can provide full functionality for these device types. We believe this is very achievable and the most urgent goal.

Use Case 2 – Using other Matter controllers with Homebridge plugins: This will allow your Homebridge plugins to be accessed from other Matter controllers, like the Aqara app for example. This is a long-term effort – it will require support for individual plugin updates, so expect this to roll out gradually over time.

Our goal remains a single platform that supports both HomeKit and Matter, supported by our existing ecosystem of over 4,000 plugins.
