Pet owners often jump at the opportunity to view photos of their favorite furry or feathered friends, but searching for the right one can be annoying. Sometimes, I just want to respond to a text message with a quizzical head turn or an unabashed look of joy as easily as sending a smiley face emoji.
Case in point: my cinnamon toasted dog. She’s brown and white and loves to hike, and I take every opportunity to show her to the world. And with the live stickers feature on my device iPhoneI can turn her photo gallery into emojis and stickers and send them to everyone I know.
Apple introduced live stickers in iOS 17 As an evolution of the click and upload feature iOS 16which lets you crop subjects from photos and live photos. Now, by saving those scraps as emojis and stickers for your pets, family and friends, you can send endless cuteness to others.
Here’s how to turn your photos into emojis and stickers to send in messages and other apps.
How to make live stickers and emojis from photos
1. Open your photo program.
2. Click on the image you want to turn into an emoji or sticker.
3. Press and hold the item in the photo that you want to turn into an emoji or sticker until you see the white outline.

Your iPhone will then add the live sticker to your sticker drawer and it will appear in your emoji keyboard. I tried using my live stickers on the messaging app Slack, but they didn’t appear in the app. I also haven’t been able to access my Live Stickers in some third-party apps, like TikTok, so you may encounter some issues when using your Live Stickers outside of Apple apps and devices.
