Govee’s new colorful outdoor lights are the first of their kind to be solar powered

Govee announced its first solar-powered lights today. It includes a 6W panel with a built-in 4,800mAh battery that can be recharged with a full day of sunlight (although if the weather is a little overcast, you can still charge it via USB-C). The Govee Solar Outdoor Light Series is available now through Company online store and Amazon It’s $99.99 and features eight color-changing lights on a 34-foot cable.

When fully charged, the lights will work for up to 13 hours, Govee claims, but that’s with their brightness limited to just 10 lumens. The lights have a maximum brightness of 50 lumens, but you can expect battery life to decrease significantly at that intensity. Both the lights and solar panel have an IP67 waterproof rating, so you can leave them on all year round, even during heavy rain or snow.

The color-changing LEDs in each bulb can produce a warm white light or can be set to one of 281 trillion different color options. If that seems overwhelming, you can use the Govee mobile app to take turns choosing from 100 preset scene modes or have the color of the lights react dynamically to the music you’re playing. You can also use the app to monitor your Solar String Lights’ battery level and set up schedules for them to turn on and off at specific times and brightness levels to help maximize battery life.
