In late 2025, Google began rolling out new icons with a gradient design. It now appears that the new look will be coming to the rest of Google’s apps. 9to5Google I got photos of the new icons that get rid of the uniform circular design that tries to cram in all the colors of the Google logo.
Overall, it feels softer. The corners are rounded, and gradations move gently from almost pastel colors to Google’s more saturated primary colors. We’ve already seen this new design language showcased in the updated versions of Google logo gin addition to Gemini, pictures and maps. according to 9to5, This represents the presence of AI-powered features.
New icons are more Fun, Vibrant, diverse, reflecting modernity Design trends Which moved away from the flat look of late 2010 and early 2020. Google Sheets, Slides, Forms, Sites, and Keep are ditching the image-oriented, paper-based look. Many of them switch to horizontal layout, which is more convenient – when was the last time you saw a vertical PowerPoint presentation?
Most of the icons look like an improvement. They are more visually distinct and often include a single color, such as Chat, which replaces the four-color speech bubble outline with a green dot with a smiley inside it reminiscent of Google Hangouts code. The only exception is the Keep icon which, in my personal opinion, looks like hot trash.
It’s not clear when the new-looking icons will start rolling out, but it will likely be sooner rather than later.
