Google’s new Android sideloading includes a mandatory waiting period

Enable developer mode in system settings: Activate this is basic. This prevents accidental triggers or “one-click” bypasses often used in high-pressure scams.

Make sure you are not receiving training: There’s a quick check to make sure no one is asking you to turn off your security. While power users know how to scan apps, scammers often pressure victims to disable protection.

Restart your phone and re-authenticate: This cuts off any remote access or active phone calls that a scammer might use to monitor what you’re doing.

Come back after the precautionary waiting period and check the following: There’s a one-day wait, and then you can confirm that it’s you making the change through biometric authentication (fingerprint or face unlock) or device PIN. Scammers rely on artificial urgency, and this breaks their spell and gives you time to think.

Install applications: Once you’re sure you understand the risks, you’re ready to install apps from unverified developers, with the option to enable for 7 days or indefinitely. For safety’s sake, you’ll still see a warning that the app is from an unverified developer, but you can just tap “Install Anyway.”
