Google Announce On Wednesday, it announced the rollout of a native Gemini app for Mac, catching up with competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic, which have had Mac apps for some time.
“Now, you can bring up Gemini from anywhere on your Mac using a quick shortcut (Option + Space) to get help instantly, without switching tabs at all,” Google explained in its blog post. “Whether you’re drafting a market report and need to check the date or creating a budget in a spreadsheet and need the right formula, you can get an answer and get back to work right away.”
When using the new app, you can share anything on your screen with Gemini to get help with what you’re looking at at the moment, including local files.
For example, if you’re looking at a complex graph, you might ask, “What are the three most important points to infer here?” And get a summary.
The app also supports the ability to create photos with Nano Banana and videos with Veo.
The native macOS app is available to all Gemini users on macOS 15 and later globally starting today. It is available for download at Gemini.google/mac.
