Google DeepMind, Microsoft and Elon Musk’s XAI have agreed to let the US government review new AI models before they are released to the public. in Announcement on Tuesdaythe Commerce Department’s Center for Artificial Intelligence Standards and Innovation (CAISI) says it will work with AI companies to conduct “pre-deployment assessments and targeted research to better evaluate frontier AI capabilities.”
CAISI, which began evaluating models from OpenAI and Anthropy in 2024She says she has done 40 reviews so far. The two companies have “renegotiated their existing partnerships with the center to better align with the priorities outlined in President Donald Trump’s AI action plan.” according to Bloomberg.
The White House may take these assessments further in the future Monday’s report from New York Times It notes that Trump is considering issuing an executive order that would “bring together technology executives and government officials” to oversee new AI models.
