Google Messages brings back customizable contacts

Google is tweaking the Profile Sharing feature in its Google Messages app to allow users to assign custom contact names and photos on their own devices to their stored contacts and others they send text messages. As reported 9to5Googlea change introduced late last year that overridden your custom names and photos with each individual’s broadcast profile, but you can now change it back to give friends, colleagues, and family members the names and avatars you think they should have.

Google Updated support page for profile sharing It now explains the steps to set a local contact photo to replace the photo shared by your contact. To customize their name or appearance, tap a contact’s name or someone’s photo in a Google Messages chat, then tap their photo on the details page. From there, you can switch between their shared version or their dedicated version.
