God of War: Laufey brings a new hero to the main PlayStation series

Sony’s State of Play event ended with more than 20 minutes of surprise gameplay for the new God of War title. Unlike the previous games, this new adventure stars Laufey, also known as Faye, who was married to Kratos and is the mother of their child, Atreus.

Although we don’t have a lot of information about the game, God of War: Laufey expands the series in a new direction. In addition to the change in protagonist, players will also be able to explore the afterlife of the gods, which Sony blog post It is described as a place where “cruel gods from various mythologies vie for power in a land filled with dangerous magic.”

The gameplay video introduces characters from Egyptian and Mongolian mythology, as well as sensitive ribbons attached to a mysterious sword, which was encased in something resembling a gelatinous cube from Dungeons & Dragons. The cube speaks and helps Faye fight.

The video begins with a sequence of 2018 God of War With the cremation of his deceased wife Lovey, known as Faye. The sequence shows the embers of the fire rising and transforming into form, and Faye awakens in what appears to be Valhalla.

As she explores, Faye sees what appears to be an army taking over this land and corrupting its creatures. Faye is then confronted by the army’s apparent leaders, Sekhmet and Bugtsi. The pair are war gods from Egyptian and Mongolian mythology, respectively.

Sekhmet asks if Faye thinks the splinter stuck in her hand will free her from the site before Bigtsi hits Faye and tells her that the portal is closed and there is no escape. Faye is then locked in a cage. A gelatinous cube with a sword with ribbons stuck in it was picked up next to her. The cube, called Phranque, and Rue, the ribbon, talk to Faye and tell her that they are in the afterlife of the gods, which they call Everywhen.

The combat shown features a familiar style of previous God of War games. Faye is able to combine attacks and use the cube to help her defeat enemies. The video ends with a confrontation with Begtse. Both Bigtzi and the prisoner who escaped mentioned how the sword was more than Faye assumed.

God of War: Laufey will be a PS5 exclusive. Sony did not provide a release date or price.
