Google has unveiled another AI content creation tool On Tuesday in Google I/O developer conference. Are we really surprised?
Gemini Omni It was announced at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California, along with a slew of AI features, such as Gemini Spark and Universal stroller (See more on our website Live blog). Gemini Omni is Google’s new AI content creation tool that creates graphics and videos based on your prompts.
I hate to burst the Google bubble, but we already have enough AI content creation tools, including Google’s own tools Nano banana 2,an artificial intelligence powered image generator. OpenAIBoth Shutterstock and Canva also have AI video creation capabilities.
Gemini Omni Flash is now available, so you can create and edit videos in Gemini application, Google Flow and YouTube shorts. Output methods, such as images and audio, will be available later. Google provided an example at Google I/O of creating a claymation-style video on how to create a protein.
Gemini Omni may be a great way to teach my 5-year-old science, but we all know this is just another tool for more artificial intelligence.
CNET found that many of us are already tired of the futuristic content on our social media timelines. Earlier this year, CNET found that 51% of US adults believe we need better online AI ratings, and 21% believe there should be a complete ban on AI-generated content on social media. Only 11% say AI content is useful, informative or entertaining.
Although more than half of US adults want stricter restrictions on AI content, AI is still outpacing us. Most (94%) of US adults believe they see AI-generated or AI-edited content on social media. However, only 44% said they could confidently tell real content from AI-generated photos and videos.
It appears that Google revealed a solution to this problem at Google I/O.
Google adds Verify content credentials Via its Gemini app to show whether content was created using AI or a camera. It will also detect if it has been edited using AI. The SynthID detector is still available in the app to verify AI-generated content.
It seems like Google is trying to please everyone as it continues to push its agenda of bringing AI into every gadget and software update possible.
Between the Nano Banana Pro and the Gemini Omni, it seems like a paradox. The same tech giant that provides the tools to create AI-generated content is also developing tools to verify it.
The Gemini Omni is one of many examples of how Google’s developer offering is alienating everyday consumers. There is still hesitation and mistrust towards AI, despite how useful it is in some use cases.
We don’t need another tool to create AI content. We need to understand how companies protect our data, not by hosting demo parties or using smart glasses to turn crowds into cartoons.
