As more people embrace an analog lifestyle, preferring offline experiences that take them away from their devices, technology seems to be following suit.
On March 31, Google implied that it would release a A new wearable device without a screen Reminds us Fitness trackers like Whoop 5.0known as recovery visions, and Luna bandwhich uses your voice to track your health. By going without screens, you can view your data only in the apps that come with wearable devices, which can be a game-changer for those who have… Health anxiety Or anyone tired of staring at screens.
Now, it looks like Garmin is joining the screen-free party.
On Thursday, news and reviews site Gadgets and Wearables reported as much Garmin has filed a trademark for a device called Cirqa with the US Patent and Trademark Office on February 25.
The trademark filing describes Cirqa as non-medical, non-therapeutic wearable devices and instruments that use sensors and electronic displays to measure and analyze the body’s vital signs and behavior. Specifically, Cirqa will collect data on recovery from physical and emotional stress, alertness level and human performance.
With a focus on recovery and performance, Cirqa looks very similar to the Whoop health tracker.
In its filing, Garmin also describes Cirqa as a data storage and transmission tool, which could mean it doesn’t display that data itself and instead relies on an app, as is the case with other screenless wearables.
A Garmin representative declined to comment, saying it was against company policy to comment on any rumored or unannounced products.
Whoop 5.0 wrist-based health tracker
This isn’t the first time Cirqa has made news. In January, Garmin mistakenly launched the Cirqa smart band product page and accompanying support pages, which have since been removed. However, the screenshots remain Available on Reddit.
The leaked product was seen in Garmin online stores in the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Chile. The belt is offered in two colors, black and French grey, and in two sizes, small-medium and large-extra-large. One of the Reddit screenshots mentioned above shows the latter in wrist sizes.
The page included an “Add to Cart” option with a warning that shipping would begin in four to five months, meaning it would launch in May or June.
Although there haven’t been any leaks showing what Cirqa will look like, based on current lawsuits, it’s unlikely to resemble Whoop.
On October 14, Whoop filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Polar Electro Oy, the manufacturer of the screenless monitor. Polar ring,Health and fitness tracking band. Bolar told MobiHealthNews that He denied the allegation That her Loop copied the look of the Whoop band. Friday, Al-Qutbi gave an official response To complain Whoop.
But this wasn’t the last time Whoop went after alleged copycats. On January 22, Whoop filed another application Trademark infringement lawsuit v. Nexxbase Technologies, manufacturer of the Luna Band. Nexxbase Technologies has until May 19 to respond to the complaint.
As of now, Garmin has its own features Sleep monitoring indicatorwhich is a smart armband worn on the upper arm to track breathing, recovery, women’s health, and other body metrics while sleeping. So perhaps Cirqa is simply moving this technology down the arm with 24/7 health insights.
