First impressions of the Motorola Razr Ultra, Razr Plus and Razr 2026

Motorola’s 2026 Razr lineup is pushing foldable phones forward with better batteries, wild new camera technology, and some truly enviable new finishes that other phone makers should consider — seriously, who doesn’t want a dark wood or indigo Alcantara Back on their phones? But the price hike that new Razrs come with is a tough pill to swallow and casts a pall over this star-studded lineup.

Each new model costs more than its 2025 counterpart. The standard 2026 Razr is $800, while the Razr Plus is $1,100, and each is $100 more. But the Razr Ultra’s $1,500 price tag is truly shocking, $200 more than last year. And it’s even harder to justify, at the time I’m writing this, when you could do so 2025 Motorola Razr Ultra crashes With twice the storage (1TB vs. 512GB) and a pair of Moto Buds Plus for $800 (that’s $700 less than the new Ultra).

So where does this leave the new $1,500 Razr Ultra and its 2026 Moto Flip siblings?

The Motorola Razr Ultra 2026 has a LOFIC camera

Much about the 2026 Razr Ultra is a repeat of the 2025 version. That’s not entirely a bad thing, considering what happened last year Razr Ultra got CNET Editor’s Choice Award For its advanced features and fun, irresistible design. Among the new features, two are very important.

The Razr Ultra has a larger 5,000 mAh battery compared to the 2025 version’s 4,700 mAh. The new battery is now made of silicon carbon, a new type of anode (the negative terminal of the battery) that allows phone manufacturers to increase capacity without requiring a larger physical size. Clamshell-style foldable phones like the Razr Ultra don’t have a lot of internal space, so being able to boost battery capacity without taking up more space is nice. In fact, all three Razr 2026 phone models have silicon-carbon batteries.

It will be curious to see how long the battery lasts. I found that the 2025 Razr Ultra lasted a full day on a single charge when I reviewed it. It also scored highest in our Battery life tests from CNET Labs from Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7.

The 2026 Ultra has three 50-megapixel cameras: wide and ultra-wide on the back and a selfie camera on the internal display. But the Razr Ultra’s killer feature is the main camera’s LOFIC image sensor, which stands for Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor. It’s a new camera sensor technology designed to give images a much better dynamic range. In fact, one of our favorite camera phones of 2026 is Leica Litzphone from Xiaomiit has a LOFIC sensor (probably not the exact same one) and takes absolutely stunning photos.

The 2026 Razr Ultra comes in two colors/finishes: Pantone Orient blue with an Alcantara finish and Pantone Cocoa with a wood finish. Otherwise, the 2026 Razr Ultra has the same dimensions, weight, Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, and 16GB of RAM as the 2025 Ultra. It has a 4-inch cover display with Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 and a 7-inch main display, both with a 165Hz refresh rate. The 2026 edition comes with a 512GB storage option, unlike last year’s Ultra, which also had a 1TB variant.

Motorola Razr Plus 2026

Of the three new shells, the Razr Plus is the most surprising to me. It is identical to Razr Plus 2025which, apart from the titanium-reinforced hinge and IP48 water and dust resistance rating, was the same 2024 Razr Plus. You can Buy the 2025 version for $700And it’s $400 cheaper than new. You can also get that aforementioned deal on the Razr Ultra 2025, which is a much better phone and saves $300 compared to the 2026 Razr Plus.

So what’s new in the Razr Plus? It has a silicon-carbon battery with a larger capacity of 4500 mAh compared to last year’s battery of 4000 mAh. The new Razr Plus only comes in Pantone Mountain View (green) but it looks rather sleek in the images shared by Motorola. Speaking of photos, the Razr Plus 2026 replaces last year’s telephoto camera with a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera. This means you have two 50MP cameras on the back (wide and ultrawide) and a 32MP selfie camera on the internal display.

There’s a new tool that uses artificial intelligence to put different outfits on your photos in Google Photos — and it’s available on all new Razr devices and will be available on Android phones this summer. It looks similar to Try the program Previewed at Google I/O 2025. Motorola has also added Google Photos Memories to the Razr’s content feed, showing photos you’ve taken.

All Razr 2026 models also have a new “pan to zoom” feature when using the phone in camcorder mode. Otherwise, the Razr Plus has the same Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 chipset, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage as the 2025 and 2024 versions. It also has a 4-inch cover display and a 6.9-inch main display, both of which support a 165Hz refresh rate. At $1,100, I don’t know what anyone would buy for this phone.

Motorola Razr 2026

The cheapest Razr ever also has the most updates — but not all of them are great. Razr 2026 has MediaTek 7450X dimensions chip, replacing the MediaTek 7400X in the Razr 2025. Like its 2026 Razr siblings, the new base model has a silicon-carbon battery, boosting capacity to 4,800 mAh. It has two 50-megapixel rear cameras: wide and ultra-wide (the 2025 ultra-wide camera was only 13 megapixels). It also has a 32-megapixel selfie camera on the internal display.

But the Razr 2026 comes with only 128GB of storage and lacks microSD card support for adding more. The Razr 2025 came with 256GB. As for the Razr 2026, it has a 3.6-inch cover screen with a 90 Hz refresh rate, and a 6.9-inch internal screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate, with the same dimensions and weight as the 2025 version.

The Razr 2026 comes in four Pantone colors: Hematite, Glacier Violet, Sport Green, and Bright White. Like the Plus and Ultra, Motorola is still selling last year’s base Razr model for $600, $200 less than the new 2026 version.
