Square Enix held its own Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest on Friday, to preview what’s next for the popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game. The last big surprise in the show was the revelation of A Nintendo Switch 2 Copy of Final Fantasy 14 This will come in August.
FF14 on Switch 2 marks the first time the MMORPG, which launched in 2010, has made its way to a Nintendo platform. In a short clip of the game being played on Switch 2appears to be a faithful port of the game for Nintendo’s latest handheld console, but it will come at an additional cost for FF14 players who want to play this newer version – and we don’t know how much that will cost yet.
Since FF14 is a subscription-based MMORPG, players need to purchase the game as well as pay for a monthly subscription. The subscription price can range from $13 to $15 and depends on the number of characters the player wants on their account.
The problem with the Switch 2 version is that it will require its own unique subscription. This means that for FF14 players who are already on other platforms, such as PC, PlayStation, Xbox or Mac (which can all be played on the same universal subscription), if they also want to play on Nintendo’s portable console, they will have to purchase the Switch 2 version of the game as well as pay the cost of the additional monthly subscription for that version. Cross-progression is still available on Switch 2 for FF14 players, which will allow them to use the same character across all platforms.
Note that this additional Nintendo fee is not related to a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, and players will not need the latter to play FF14 on Switch 2.
This additional subscription fee appears to have come after “several months of discussions with Nintendo,” the FF14 team said in the festival stream. To make up for these additional fees that players will have to deal with, Square Enix will make the first month of FF14 on Switch 2 free. Those who have a FF14 subscription on another platform will also receive a 50% discount on a Switch 2 subscription.
Square Enix did not immediately respond to a request to confirm the game’s price and subscription for the Switch 2 version.
The other big news from the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest was regarding the game’s next expansion. evercold It is scheduled to be released in January 2027. The expansion will include two new jobs for characters to play in, a higher level of 110, new towns to explore, and more dungeons and raids to complete.
Also coming with the Evercold expansion is a new raid series that will feature a crossover with the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series. A Short teaser This raid series has been shown off, but it hasn’t given any additional details about its components or what content will be included from the beloved and quirky anime.
Square Enix has not provided a price for the Evercold expansion, but expansions typically retail for $40.
