Eufy is one of my favorite picks Home security cameras without a subscriptionSo I was interested in what the brand would unveil at Anker Day on Thursday. One ad caught my attention right away: Eufy is launching a new ad I have an agent It’s called EdgeAgent which will reside locally on a new companion device called the Smart Security Shield.
Smart Safety Shield is Sensor and camera With a 180 degree field of view and equipped with digital security key technology to prevent unauthorized access. It’s primarily designed for outdoor use, with AI chips on board Uses Face recognition To identify friends and family from up to 100 feet away. Eufy says the device will work with many of the company’s hardware and service bundles.
Because EdgeAgent is completely local, it does not need to exchange data with servers over the Internet. This makes AI processing 63% faster than competing cloud systems, reducing lag to just a few seconds, Yoffie says.
EdgeAgent will be able to process the data and activate specific security measures based on its analysis, e.g Turn on the lightsOr issue an audio warning or send an alert to the phone – including a text description of what the camera sensor detects.
That’s it All AI features I’ve seen it in the last year or two from most of the major security brands, including… flashAnd Ring, Google Nest, and Arlo. But the Eufy version offers something different that I particularly like.
Eufy’s AI agent comes with two unique features
The Eufy app supports local video storage, among other privacy features.
First, capabilities like facial recognition and descriptive alerts based on AI analysis have always required a subscription fee on other brands, which can range from $4 to $20 per month. Eufy sticks to its opt-out model, making it the least expensive way I’ve ever seen to get discovery like this.
Second, with Eufy’s no cloud data and local video storage practices, this use of AI is safer and more privacy-focused. Versions found in other security cameras. I wouldn’t say it’s completely safe — nothing is 100% secure — but when the processing stays on the device, it’s less likely to be used to train AI models, stolen in a data breach or spied on by company employees, especially with added encryption. Eufy offers cloud storage services for those who want it.
Eufy plans to launch its AI with Smart Security Shield in the second half of 2026. I’ll tell you more when I get a chance to test it and see how it compares to the features you have to pay for.
