We all know that Disney Plus It is the hub of Disney content, both new and old, alongside Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, and National Geographic. In addition to familiar classics, the platform adds a steady stream of new movies and shows every month, including original series and Disney Jr. shows. Nat Geo documentaries and old library additions like sitcoms, reality shows, and movies.
This July, some favorite franchises are returning to the platform, including a new season of X-Men ’97, the animated series that premiered in 2024 to critical and fan acclaim. The show will premiere on July 1. And later in the month, you (or your kids, anyway) can watch a new full-length movie, Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, the fifth film in the hugely popular series that breathes new life into familiar fantasy characters (or their kids, anyway). The new film showcases the latest adventures of Red and Chloe, the daughters of the Queen of Hearts and Cinderella, respectively.
These titles, plus several new National Geographic shark specials, a new season of Project Runway and more, will arrive on Disney Plus this month. Here’s a look at what we’re excited about.
July 1
Season 2 of X-Men ’97 arrives on Disney Plus on July 1. The show, a revival of X-Men: The Animated Series, continues the adventures of mutant superheroes and leans heavily into nostalgia for the original series, including an animation style reminiscent of many classic 1990s cartoons. The first three episodes of the new season will arrive all at once, and new episodes will drop weekly thereafter until August 12.
July 3
You can currently watch the first 36 seasons of The Simpsons on Disney Plus, and the platform also hosts several bonus episodes exclusive to the streaming service. The latest of these exclusives is an episode called Simpsley, arriving on July 3. The Black Episode appears to be a tribute to the talented Mr. Ripley, with Homer appearing as Seymour Skinner’s annoying guest at his Italian villa. (Another Disney Plus exclusive episode: Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition, arrived in June, and a third, a Black Mirror spoof called Yellow Mirror, will arrive on August 2.)
July 5
The Shark Week brand is officially owned by the Discovery Channel, but July typically sees a plethora of shark-related content across multiple platforms. This year, Disney Plus is the streaming home for several new shows that will debut on National Geographic. July 5 marks the beginning of the Sharkfest programming lineup that will include special shows such as Hammerhead Sharks Up Close with Bertie Gregory, Attack of the Samurai Sharks, and Shark vs. Giant Croc and Shark Island Showdown..
July 10
In 2025, Project Runway was revived for season 21, with Heidi Klum returning as host after a multi-season absence, and now she’s back for season 22. The new season of the fashion design competition series also features Nina Garcia and Lou Roach as head judges, Christian Siriano as mentor, and Tyra Banks as guest judge. The show will premiere on Freeform on July 9 and on Disney Plus the next day.
July 13
Rabbit Hole is a new 10-part variety show that brings together popular digital creators, including Jesser, Dan Rhodes, Topper Guild, ZHC and Zhong, as they participate in on-screen challenges, games and performances. The series will premiere on July 13. (Oh, and not to be confused with the 2023 series of the same name, which was a short-lived Kiefer Sutherland spy thriller on Paramount Plus.)
July 17
Descendants: Wicked Wonderland is a sequel to the 2024 film Descendants: Rise of Red and follows Red (Kylie Cantrall), daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe (Malia Baker), daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming, as they learn the hard way what happens when they alter the fabric of time. In this latest fairytale-inspired adventure, they discover that by changing the past, they have created a new villain in their world, the Mad Hatter (Leonardo Nam). The film premieres on Disney Channel on July 16 and streams the next day on Disney Plus.
July 23
Loki himself, Tom Hiddleston, hosts the new three-part docudrama Pompeii: Out of Time with Tom Hiddleston, a limited series that is part scripted drama and part documentary, depicting what life was like in Italy in the hours before Mount Vesuvius erupted in Pompeii. The show will premiere on National Geographic on July 22, and will stream the following day on Disney Plus and Hulu.
The Devil Wears Prada became a quotable pop culture film after its debut in 2006, while also becoming a symbol of toxic workplace dynamics. In the sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, you can welcome back Miranda, played by Meryl Streep, and Andy, played by Anne Hathaway, for another jaunt into the world of fashion media – and this time, the two friends are orbiting each other and must face some new threats, including the bossy Emily (Emily Blunt), who now works for Dior. Stream it on Disney Plus (and Hulu) on July 29.
