ChatGPT is struggling to maintain its explosive growth as users uninstall the app or choose competing chat software instead. According to data from the market intelligence company Sensor towerChatGPT saw a 132 percent increase in uninstalls year-over-year in April. Its uninstall rate was even higher last month, rising 413 percent year over year, trailing OpenAI Dealing with the Pentagon In February.
While ChatGPT is still growing its user base, Sensor Tower says growth is slowing down — ChatGPT increased its number of monthly active users by 168 percent in January, but only by 78 percent in April. ChatGPT still has a “significantly larger user base” than its competitors, but its growth also lags behind Cloud’s. According to Sensor Tower, ChatGPT downloads have risen 14 percent year-over-year over the past few months while Cloud has seen an 11-fold increase over the same period.
ChatGPT is facing just that slowdown as OpenAI eyes an IPO, though CFO Sarah Friar has reportedly stated that He expressed his concerns About those plans. According to Wall Street JournalOpenAI recently missed its internal goals for new users and revenue, raising concerns among Friar and other leaders at OpenAI that “the company may not be able to pay for future computing contracts if revenue does not grow quickly enough.”
