In summary
Here are California election results for ballot propositions, President, Congress and Legislature. They will be continuously updated.
Californians finish voting today in a primary election that will determine who appears on the ballot in November to succeed Gavin Newsom as governor after his two terms at the helm of the state.
Voters are also choosing candidates in U.S. House races that will help determine which party will control Congress during President Trump’s final two years in office.
The ballot includes a list of other offices in the state – lieutenant governor, secretary of state, Attorney General, controller, treasurer, superintendent of public instruction, insurance commissioner and members of Leveling board — as well as selected for California Assembling and Senate.
Latest polls in the gubernatorial race show Democrats Xavier Becerra and Tom Steyer in a close race with Republican Steve Hilton. The top two candidates, regardless of party, will advance to the November election.
In close races, it can take days, even weeks, for winners to be announced. Ballots postmarked by today can arrive no later than June 9 and be counted. The Secretary of State has until July 10 to certify the results.
