Designed for yoga, Pilates, strength training, and any exercise that involves gentle movement, the play mat comes in a 5mm version for everyday flow and an 8mm version to provide support for more active workouts.
Bala products are playful in their design – just look at the bright pink finish of the rug that matches complementary Bala accessories, including No beam It is likely multi-use Bala bracelets. After spotting Barbie’s crisp pink rug design on the social media sites of celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Victoria Beckham, my superficial self had to give it a try.
The mat, accessories, and accompanying Bala app (starting at $24 per month) have substance, too, and I enjoy the sculpting, sweat, and dance workouts. I’ve also been diving into more meditation, breathing, and stretching sessions that make me feel like I’m part of the trendy Bala club — albeit in my gray sweats, alone, in my spare room.
The top of the mat is made of high-quality synthetic polyurethane, and although it is non-renewable, it provides good grip and is non-slip. The padded support was noticeably gentle on my knees and hands when attempting dynamic poses. Meanwhile, the base is made from FSC-certified natural rubber for peace of mind. The 5mm thickness was fine for me, but if you have joint pain or want more support, I would opt for the thicker 8mm version.
The faded color of the rug tends to show every bit of dust and dirt — especially when I’m working out in my sneakers — so a good wipe down after use is a must. Folds neatly for storage, but separates Scrunchie mat Or a yoga mat bag to keep it from falling apart will help.
