Action camera It can capture the most joyful moments in life. Whether you need one to strap to your head before jumping into the void on your next bungee jump, or you want something waterproof so you can photograph the kids in the pool, there’s a good option for you. Prime Day is the perfect opportunity to score a deal on some new camera gear. Below, I’ve rounded up the best action camera deals you can get right now.
If you’re looking for more deals this week, be sure to check out our site The best Amazon Prime Day deals Feature and dip in our Prime Day Live Blog.
Updated Wednesday, June 24: I’ve added new deals on the DJI Mic 3, Osmo Action 5 Pro, and Osmo 360.
By far, the best camera deal on Prime Day is the GoPro Max 2 360 camera, which is currently 40 percent off. the GoPro Max 2 (7/10 WIRED recommends) It is My favorite 360 camera. The Max 2’s dual 14mm (35mm equivalent) lenses record a slice as small as 1/2.3-inch, resulting in what GoPro calls “True 8K” (10-bit) video. The Max 2’s larger sensors provide sharper, sharper footage than other 360-degree cameras, and you can record 10-bit color in the log for greater color grading flexibility in post-production — a capability you’ll be hard-pressed to find in other 360-degree cameras. Even if editing log footage is a lot of work (I hear that), the GoPro’s natural-looking color display in the default color profile is still the best I’ve experienced.
As with most GoPros, the Max 2 has three mounting options: folding fingers, a tripod slot, and a magnetic system. This means you can mount the Max 2 almost anywhere. It also has the simplest lens cap replacement process. To do this, simply twist the lenses with your fingers and then install the new lenses. You’ll get all the usual GoPro video modes, including HyperSmooth video stabilization, horizon straightening, TimeWarp, and more.
The only downside to the Max 2 is the lackluster sound quality. The best way to avoid this problem is to pair your camera with a Bluetooth microphone. Also note that if low-light video is on your list of must-haves in an action camera, the Insta360 X5 (below) is probably a better bet. For everyone else, this is the 360 camera to get, especially at this discounted price.
the Insta360 Ice Pro 2 (8/10 WIRED RECOMMENDS) It combines a fantastic Leica lens, an 8K-capable sensor, and a foldable rear screen, which is why it’s my favorite action camera for vlogging. 8K video isn’t great for action shots, but the camera is great for slow-mo shots, which you can crop and export to 4K. But the standout feature is the rear screen. Other action cameras offer a small front screen for taking selfies, but the Ace Pro 2’s massive full rear screen is there to help you frame yourself. The rear screen also simplifies shooting from the hip and stabilizes other unusual angles, especially when paired with cameras Xplorer Grip Pro ($10 off).
