Apple will soon allow businesses to buy ads in its Maps app. in Announcement on TuesdayApple says ads may appear at the top of your device Search results in mapsas well as in the new “Suggested Places” list. They will be arriving on the app in the US and Canada this summer.
The company describes the Suggested Places feature as an experience that displays recommendations “based on nearby trends, a user’s recent searches, and more.” He points out that he will clearly mark ads in the application, and that “the user’s location and the ads he sees and interacts with in Maps are not linked to the user’s Apple account.” Apple confirms that it does not collect user data or share it with third parties, as it is all stored on the device.
The news comes after only one day BloombergMark Gurman reports Apple planned to allow companies to bid on certain keywords in Maps, such as “sushi,” allowing their location to appear at the top of a user’s search results. Apple says ads in search results will appear “based on relevance.”
Retailers and restaurants buy ads in Maps by joining Apple’s new business platformwhich is set to Replace its previous initiatives: Apple Business Connect, Apple Business Essentials, and Apple Business Manager. The platform, which launches April 14, is free and allows businesses to manage apps, emails, security, cloud storage and more across a range of devices. Businesses can also access their brand profile, edit how their company appears on Cards across Apple apps, manage tap-to-pay settings, and more from the Apple Business platform.
