At its Worldwide Developers Conference, WWDC 2026, Apple debuted a new system-wide dictation experience with a new Apple Intelligence model built on Google’s Gemini on iOS 27.
The company said the dictation experience is built into the keyboard and can correct spelling, punctuation and capitalization, allowing the feature to work across apps.
AI-powered dictation apps have been very popular recently, including Wispr Flow, Willow, and Monologue. These apps clean up filler words like “ums” and “ahs” and format text after copying based on context. The company started Some of these apps are restricted with iOS 26.4as they needed additional steps to activate a session using the keyboards for those applications.
With the new built-in dictation, Apple Dictation may have an advantage over other apps in terms of ease of use. It’s not clear whether Apple will allow easier workflow for third-party developers with the new iOS 27 update.
Apple’s move comes after the launch of Google Similar feature with Gboard, Powered by Gemini, and works across the system.
