During the Google Cloud Next conference on Wednesday, the company announced a slew of Workspace-focused updates, including the addition of the AI Overviews feature to Gmail. The feature, which today uses artificial intelligence to summarize Google search results, will now do the same for Gmail users in the workplace.
According to Google, this will allow Gmail users to ask search questions using natural language and then get concise answers without having to open and read different emails.
The company suggests that the feature can be used to ask work-related questions on topics typically shared in emails, such as those related to performance improvements, project milestones, billing, feedback on floors, flight details, and more with direct answers.
AI Overview will generate an instant summary pulled from multiple emails and conversations.

Although not everyone is in favor of using AI as the first step to finding an answer, it is quickly becoming the norm, both within Google products and elsewhere on the web.
In this case, Google says Gmail’s AI overview would be the default if the company had done so Gemini for Workspace enabled in Gmail, And if Workspace Intelligence access to Gmail is enabled. (End users must turn on Smart Features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet and Smart Features in Google Workspace as well.)
This feature was previously available to consumers through Google AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions. Google says it will now also come to business, enterprise, and education customers as well with the following products:
