If you’re tired of controlling your Stream Deck hardware by manually pressing buttons, good news: Elgato will now let you delegate that task to a chatbot instead. the Stream Deck 7.4 software update Today it offers Model Context Protocol (MCP) support, allowing AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, and Nvidia G-Assist to find and activate Stream Deck actions for you.
“You can still set up actions in the Stream Deck app the same way you always have. MCP adds a new way to trigger them,” Elgato said in its announcement. “Once everything is connected, you can type or speak requests and your AI tool will trigger the corresponding Stream Deck action.”
MCP – Supported by companies such as Microsoft, Anthropic, Figmaand Canvas – It has quickly become the universal “USB cable” for AI, allowing AI assistants to connect directly to third-party applications. Elgato’s update essentially provides a hands-free way to run any custom Stream Deck macro commands (whether that’s the physical hardware or the digital app).
You can enable the feature by updating to the latest version of the Stream Deck app, opening Preferences, and clicking the General tab at the top of the app window. From there, you can select “Enable MCP Actions” to create a personalized “MCP Actions” profile, with any actions placed within it accessible by your connected AI tools.
Complete setup requires installing an additional Node.js tool and an Elgato MCP Server bridge on your computer to connect the AI tools to the Stream Deck application. It’s a difficult process for anyone who’s not familiar with MCP integrations, but fortunately Elgato has a complete step-by-step installation guide that’s easy to follow.
