What made me love the Dyson V10 Konical so much was how well it performed in my rounds of testing. I tested this with sand and grain on carpet, then followed with litter on hardwood, then carpeted stairs and bedrooms. It performed better than many Dysons in its overall score, beating the V15 Detect, V16 Piston Animal and V8 Cyclone with its scores.

My scoring criteria ranged from 1 to 4 across five tests — sand, cat litter, Cheerios, general vacuum, and handheld mode — with 4 being the best performance and 1 being the lowest. The V10 Konical scored 14 out of 20, while the V15 came close behind with 12 out of 20. The V10 came in second place overall out of the five Dyson vacuums, with only the Gen5Detect bettering it with a score of 17. The V10 pulls ahead of the Gen5Detect if you’re looking for extras, although the V10 will be compatible with Dyson’s self-emptying docking station launching later this year.

During testing, I was particularly impressed with how well it picked up sand due to the low suction power, and it did a great job of sucking up the intentional mess of Cheerios I made. I was less impressed with the results on hard floors, but since the V10 doesn’t work with a Fluffy Optic head like higher-end Dyson vacuums, it’ll never be as effective as vacuums that can switch to a head made for that surface. It’s not bad, though, as it was still able to clean up the trash that littered the hardwood floors as a test. It only needed two passes instead of one to get it all up, and didn’t put it in a pile like the cheaper V8 Cyclone did. The V10 works well in handheld mode and on carpet and rugs, and it felt a little easier to push on low-pile carpet than the V8 with its Digital Motorbar head.

Overall, I would recommend this vacuum if you use a Dyson and have a house filled mostly with carpets and rugs. It’s a better buy than the cheaper V8, and I found it to be a better overall experience than some of the more expensive Dyson vacuums out there. I still wouldn’t call it better than Reveal the power of the sharkbut if you’re using a Dyson machine, this is the best buy on Dyson’s affordable range.
