Resident Evil: Code Veronica is finally getting a remake

The Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake kicked off Summer Game Fest, the annual showcase for upcoming games, which began on Friday. If anything like previously Released Remakes From the games, fans can expect some beautiful visuals as well as new lore for the series.

The trailer for Resident Evil: Code Veronica Remake doesn’t offer many details about the game’s release timing other than that it will release sometime in 2027. If the pattern of previous releases is any indication, the remake could drop early in the year in February or March.

No gameplay is shown in the trailer. Instead, the film focused on a person being guided by an elderly European woman to an American room that had been ransacked. It’s not revealed that the person is Claire Redfield, Chris Redfield’s sister and the main character of Veronica’s Code, until the end of the trailer.

First released for the Sega Dreamcast in 2000, Code Veronica is not considered a main entry in the franchise, but it’s also not a side story since what happens in the game is considered canonical to Resident Evil lore.

The game follows Claire, who has been searching for her brother Chris since the destruction of Raccoon City. She infiltrated the Umbrella Corporation’s facility and was captured, then sent to a prison island in the Southern Ocean. You learn more about the origins of the Umbrella Corporation and the new virus T-Virus Veronica.

Midway through the game, players switch from playing Claire to controlling Chris, who heard about his sister’s capture and made his way to the island shortly after she was transferred to another facility in Antarctica. Eventually, the two come together to take down twin siblings, Alexia and Alfred, who are the grandchildren of Sir Edward Ashford, one of the founders of the Umbrella Corporation.

No platforms are announced in the trailer. Most likely, it will be available for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series, although it could also be released for Nintendo Switch 2.
