A new way to deliver Internet to the sky has emerged recently, and aims to be a bridge between satellite Internet such as… Starlink And terrestrial Internet from local cell towers.
Sceye’s HAPS is on its way to the stratosphere.
The large, rectangular silver balloons are called HAPS, which is short for High-altitude platform systems. HAPS come in many shapes and sizes, including the fixed-wing Airbus Zephyr. However, Sceye chose a balloon-like design to take advantage of the lifting force of lighter-than-air helium to reach the stratosphere and stay there.

Sceye’s last test flight marked the end of the technology endurance program, with HAPS spending more than 12 days in the air. The program collected data on how systems deteriorated over time. This data will allow the company to make the necessary adjustments and prepare for the upcoming commercial test flights, which will focus on traveling to specific areas to provide internet to people on the ground.

Sceye’s HAPS aims to compete with satellites as a new layer of infrastructure in the stratosphere, providing not only Internet But also environmental monitoring and more.
