HP 514pn Review: A portable screen can lighten your business day, but not your wallet

While “Neo: LED” is just a LG brand version of the IPS Black board with the miniature-led rear light-which is low in the company QNED TV panels, which were out of time – HP Series 5 Pro 514pn is the first new laptop screens we have seen and used technology. (Mobile screens are just laptop laptop screens.)

NEO: LED consumes less energy than the typical mini -light lighting, or a clear addition to a laptop, or in this case, an external screen that may explode from the laptop battery. Well, this price: $ 299 truly High for this category, especially for 14 inches. Perhaps why this screen comes out of the HP commercial display section. There is a lot of time from now and when it is charged at the end of November, so the price can change in the meantime.

Stylish design

You expect a lot of distinct touches for money, and HP does not fail for you. There Kickstand is merged into the back, which it supports in both vertical and horizontal trends. The screen is around the length of a piece of paper the size of the letters stands vertically. The overall cable contains a small L-shaped conductor, so the upper part is not separated like the Tleetubby antenna when it is rotated, and there is a USB-C conductor with support to insert the video on each side.

Kickstand fixed regardless of the orientation or corner. It is not thinner or lighter on its size, but with a thickness of 9 mm and 1.4 pounds, at the right end of the range. The package includes a thin magnetic cover – a nice touch and certainly something you expect at this price, but the magnet is not terrible.

In addition to the conductors, the right side is found on the energy and brightness buttons. There are no other devices control items, which means that you depend on the program. It is not surprising, that the Windows program has a relatively full find, and includes brightness settings, pre -settings for color and rotation, as well as less common options such as video level (limited for full term), black extension, response time (which you should not need to be used) and more. HP manufactures a MAC program, and although I use it connected to MacBook while writing this, it seems that the Mac program is not yet available from the HP download site. The rotation appears to be built into MacOS settings.

Solid

Just because this screen can cover a wide colors chain, it does not mean that it can do it precisely. It is 100 % classified from both P3 and Adobe RGB. This is one of the areas where OLED tends to a palace, because it faces a problem with Adobe RGB.

The factory has not been calibrated to the screen factory and lacks personal files, so the series does not draw a certain color space. This means on the edges of space colors can be far away. It can be useful for non -critical work in virtual and neutral preparation. This seems to be the most accurate for Adobe RGB.

Another of the advantages listed in IPS Black Neo: LED screen is higher than the traditional IPS panel, up to 2000: 1 compared to 1000: 1. Partially because IPS Black should offer dark blacks, which is done by 514pn – not only enough and not when increased brightness. End of Antiglare also contributes to a little less than what you may see with a shiny screen. It was still more reflected than I loved in the dark areas.

I found that contrast is generally measured around 1450: 1, rising up to 1,650: 1 in the original color area; The original on most screens means saturation and brightness in the maximum. But up to 1400: 1 is better than a lot of mobile screens, and definitely good enough to work.

With brightness flowing along the way, he measured 427 networks. This is comfortably higher than its estimated peak of 400 reunions, which means that there are some general expenditures integrated to compensate for the deterioration of rear lighting over the life of the screen.

While 514pn has a 75 Hz update rate, I find it mixed for games. I initially believed that it would be great as a hand -holder like steam deck (or nintendo key, but I have no one of these). It is, as long as you do not need speed; It does not support the variable update, so it will be closed to 60 Hz. But bright colors are plus, as long as you do not use the high contrast to the OLED screen on your device. Although I faced some artifacts when the frame rate of Lenovo Legion Go (Steamos) decreased to less than 60 frames per second in Hades 2, the color and contrast were improved on the IPS screen on the mobile.

HP 514pn is, in general, a nice portable screen, especially when compared to an average display. But 299 dollars when you come out of your pocket; HP can come out with the consumer model at a lower price (it does not contain a size reduction in size). Top contrast may lead to your eyes to serve if you spend long days in front of it, which may reduce the high cost to some extent.

How to test the screens
