Epson EF21 Displacement device review: The Little Little Little Maris

Epson Epiqvision Mini EF21, and near EF22, are very small laptops with a built -in Google TV for broadcasting. Both are flexible enough so that you can throw a movie or TV program to anywhere you have a wall and a port.

Almost a toaster, it’s larger than mobile latitude, but smaller than traditional home displays designed for more permanent position. The main difference between the two is that EF22 adds GIMBALEDIt is a feature that I am contrary to, so I focused on EF21.

Although the size and design are great, the performance is lower than admiration, especially if you are considering the price. At the price of $ 899 (turns approximately 715 pounds or $ 1420), it is more expensive than portable models and full -size full size. However, to write these lines, it is much less than usual, currently $ 650, making it a more interesting suggestion.

Just a few years ago, the displays of this size and the price were 720 pixels, at best. It is great to see 1080 pixels, or specifically, wonderful no Watch large pixels units, chunky. One of the prominent losses, either due to the size of the size or prices, is that it has a much simpler lens than most of the display devices in this price range. There is no transformation in the lenses – which is, in fairness, is not especially common in any case – but there is also no enlargement. This is a bit of the problem, because it means that you will need to transfer the display physically to create a larger or smaller image. Given its size and intended use, this is not a huge deal. More small deal, if you will.

Epson claims 1000 Lomans. I measured 502 with All settings that we usually use to measure and review the display devices. The dynamic mode was brighter, at 1044. It should be noted that all display devices measure less than their subsidized specifications when set to show the best quality of photos. Epson is usually closer to most. The Epson contrast ratio is about 348: 1. This is much lower than the average, but in the stadium of some high -end shows. EPSON’s low display bodies are usually somewhat bad. EF21 is definitely on this stadium, but it is better than some.

As with all modern laser lasers (and LED), the light source of the display device should last.

April 2025 update: Because of a mistake in my end, the contrast ratio is higher than what was originally measured. It is still very low, not just low as I originally said. I have reinforced it, and the numbers here represent these new measurements. This does not change our classifications or our general opinion in EF21, as the test is playing alongside a greater role in getting the final product.

The individual HDMI inputs of EF21 should be a lot as it is designed to be a stand -alone flowing machine, so all you want to connect is the game control. The aforementioned broadcast is through Google TV, so all the usual suspects here: Netflix, Disney Plus, Hulu, etc.

There are two 5 -watt drivers, seized by Dolby, and they seem to be good. These are young drivers in a small box, so do not expect Carnegie hall. It is not loud, and there is not much of the brightness, but the dialogue is clear. There is a headphone output, so that you can easily connect the external speakers if you want.

The control device is devoted to the remote to the Netflix and YouTube buttons, along with input, settings, brightness and size.

Photo quality comparisons

I compared EF21 with ANKER MARS 3 AIR and Benq ht2060. I will admit, it may seem like strange options.

The three air is smaller, more carried, but it matters to someone looking for a latitude like this. BenQ is more than twice the size of the EF21, but a little more expensive. It is less pregnant, but it’s still small and light enough to live on a shelf and come out on the nights of films, just like EF21. This means that EF21 is difficult to compare because it is in a strange medium of size and price. I compared the three to 1.0 gains.

Mars 3 Air has found closer performance to EF21, so the most part of the comparison was formed. The first noticeable thing was the difference in return. I measured 348: 1 on average with EF21 and 405: 1 with air 3. This is somewhat close, but alongside, the bucks were Greer on Epson, and the picture was slightly flat. So it seems that Aker is side by side with more depth and punching, although it is not prominent in its field. The moderate variation of the contrast that you measured in display devices over the past few years is 471: 1.

Epson engineers did a good job with other aspects of the image, and therefore, EF21 regrets better than you expect. Its colors are more accurate and natural, so although they do not stand out just like ANKER, it is a pleasure to watch otherwise. The colors of the grass, sky and skin are slightly more realistic on Epson.

With bright scenes, then, they are generally identical in general. A little additional brightness helps here as well. This also means that you can get a larger image, which is still seen, with EF21 compared to Aker. However, with dark scenes, blacks are Greyer on Epson and it seems significantly better denial.

What about Beng? Well, the only way is for Adel to be compared remotely here because of the price. For an additional $ 100, HT2060 is brighter, even in the EF21 brilliant mode, has a significantly better contrast ratio (more than 8.5x better), better color, etc. There is no competition here really, it looks much better. Yes, it’s also much larger, with a 14.4 -inch imprint in 9.6 inches, but it shows that it is $ 899 of Epson that you think a lot about the performance you get.

Portable

With all developments to other lighting sources and electronics, I can definitely understand the latitudes that design new models to suit the outlets that were previously undesirable. A more orientated lifestyle model, with attractive designs and a variety of colors such as EF21, definitely logical. It is an easy sale for parents. Whoever was able to have something like this is on hand to spend the night of the film or distraction before bed.

Epson, however, in a difficult place. Low LCD chips never looks good for my eyes like DLP at the same price or less. The variation of the contrast is not present, so the image looks washed compared. Although EF21 designers did a great job in making other aspects of the image look good, without at least the high brightness is common with other display devices, the EF21 is short. This is particularly true at $ 899, which is more than $ 100 of Benq HT2060, which is much larger, which is superior to it in every way. Is there at least twice the size of the shelf space when it is brighter and better look? This is an account that you should consider because I cannot see it in your home (as much as you know).

At a price of $ 650, EF21 is more interesting. It is more attractive than Air 3 MARS 3, it’s more brighter and its image is more satisfactory. It is still a little more expensive, but it is close. Of course, Air 3 has a battery, so it is more carried, but if this is what you are looking for, I doubt that you are thinking that Epson begins.

So … yes. There is nothing particularly wrong in the EF21, but it is costly to perform it.
