There are so many amazing black-owned beauty brands that deserve to be supported and celebrated. If you’re looking for the best black-owned beauty brands to shop from, whether you’re looking to pick up skincare or update your makeup collection, you’ve come to the right place.
Black-owned beauty brands tend to be overlooked in the beauty industry, which is why I’ve compiled a list highlighting notable Black-owned haircare, skincare, and cosmetics brands. Don’t think of this list as a comprehensive history, but rather as a starting point.

Black hair care
Topicals’ mission is to change how people feel about their skin through effective, science-backed products and mental health advocacy. The brand was founded by entrepreneur Olamide Oloye, who grew up suffering from chronic skin conditions. Her lived experience inspired her decision to found the company in hopes of shifting the focus away from the need for “perfect” skin to be beautiful. Camille Rose founder Janelle Stevens is all about use Gourmet food grade Ingredients such as honey, aloe vera and ginger to enrich hair. Founded in 2011, this hair care company is one of the few companies still going strong from the early days of the natural hair movement.
Lisa Hanna Beauty was created by Lisa Hannaa former Jamaican politician and Miss World 1993 winner. The skincare line is designed to “rejuvenate, protect and reveal visibly radiant skin at every stage.” There are balms and moisturizers out there, but I’m currently obsessed with the Luminous Face and Body Glow Serum. You can’t go wrong here.
Ixora Botanical Beauty It’s another popular brand that I adore. It was founded by Mercedes Edney in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands and later relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina. The founder’s struggles with dry skin and eczema inspired the brand. Ixora Botanical Beauty has a range of great products, but one of their best sellers is their Donkey Milk & Chamomile Hydrating Facial Cleanser. This is a staple in my routine.
Tracee Ellis Ross’s celebrity-owned hair care line was designed with curly and coily hair in mind. This brand uses a blend of oils like jojoba and argan oils, along with conditioners and other products, to define the hair.
This hair care brand has always been at the forefront. Alikay Naturals strives to create products that nourish your hair over time. And if you’re familiar with and love the LOC (liquid, oil, cream) method, you’ve got the founder Rochelle Graham Campbell To thank. You can’t go wrong Deep conditioner with honey and sage.
Cecred is Beyonce’s hair care line, and the products are worth all the hype. “It has been a lifelong dream of mine to create these hair products and bring some of my mother’s teachings to life,” Beyoncé wrote on the website. The products were created specifically for black women and our uniquely beautiful hair. This purifying shampoo scalp scrub is one of my favorites.
Another foundational brand, TGIN (Thank God It’s Natural) is a brainchild Chris Tia Donaldsona Harvard Law graduate who was trying to figure out how to style her hair for work. You will find many products that contain ingredients such as shea butter and vitamin E that soften and moisturize the hair. the Butter cream is a daily moisturizer It is one of the brand’s best-selling products, and helps keep your hair soft, shiny and manageable without weighing it down.
Sun care is serious business, especially for Shauntay Lundy, founder Black girl sunscreen. A good sunscreen can help reduce scarring and protect the skin from the sun’s rays. (Yes, black people need this protection, too.) The problem is that most mineral sunscreens will give anyone with dark skin a visible white cast. Enter Black Girl Sunscreen, which not only moisturizes and protects dark skin, but also does so without discoloration.
Like many business people, Wajid vanguard I started early — at 14, actually. Since then, she and her family have been creating products to strengthen and smooth curly hair using bamboo, apples, and shea butter, among other ingredients.
The brand was founded by Whitney White, the OG YouTube haircare influencer, and her sister Tavita. These products are simple, stable and all non-toxic.
Black owned skin care
The skincare game is huge, and name brands are very popular right now. This Alicia Keys brand brightens dull skin with ingredients like Manuka honey and lactic acid.
Epanoy skin care It’s TLC for your skin, according to the company’s website. The brand offers personalized consultations to help you find exactly what you need for your skin concerns. These products are good for sensitive skin because they are gentle and effective.
Oui the People was founded by Karen Young and launched with a single product in 2014. The brand has grown significantly over the years and now offers many great products, including Lightweight hydrating body polish.
Dorion Renault I created this brand to target dryness, discoloration, and more for melanin-rich skin. With products made with shea butter, rose water, cocoa, and other protective ingredients, all skin types can achieve healthy, glowing skin.
Gene OrmonNola Skinsentials wanted to introduce botanical ingredients to improve everyone’s skincare routine. The company’s products can reduce acne and help moisturize the skin as well.
Most people already know about Fenty Beauty thanks to its creator, Rihanna. In addition to typical facial skincare products to cleanse, hydrate and lock in moisture, Fenty Skin offers body care options as well.
Black mamluk makeup
You can never talk about black-owned makeup brands without mentioning the brand The legendary Pat McGrath. Pat McGrath Labs was founded in 2006 and has been producing high-quality products ever since. There is also a lot to choose from here. You can start by prepping your skin, then create a full makeup routine with foundation, concealer and mascara before adding it all in with one of the brand’s signature lip colors.
Nigerian-born founder Sharon Chuter is a former beauty executive who created a cruelty-free, vegan makeup brand that makes any skin tone pop.
Beauty Bakerie has been a trending brand that has taken the market by storm with its creative names and designs. Founded by Nicole cashmere Launched in 2011, it offers makeup in a variety of colors, packaged with cute designs to match the wearer’s playful aesthetic.
Pear Nova launched as a nail polish brand, but has since branched out into the world of makeup with the most amazing eyeshadow palette. Rachel James founded the brand to fill “a void of representation for medium to dark skin tones in the nail world.” If you’re wondering why the Pear Nova brand is named after James’ “sister-in-law”, Nova Henry, who was a victim of domestic violence. The brand is vegan-friendly, cruelty-free, and dedicated to supporting victims of domestic violence and raising awareness about the issue.
Lip Bar was started long before it was a thing Featured on Shark Tank. In 2012, Melissa Butler decided to define beauty from her own kitchen. Now, the brand offers makeup in a variety of shades through products like concealer, tinted moisturizer, and lipstick, as the company name suggests.
Black Opal is one of the pioneers in makeup for women of color. The company was started in 1994 and is owned by Desiree Rogers, who served as social secretary during the Obama presidency, and Cheryl Mayberry McKissack. Black Opal offers affordability and a range of shades to suit diverse skin tones.
This brand is known for its skincare and makeup. Created by Another world Star Vera Moore, who decided to jump into the world of beauty when she saw the need for a natural-looking foundation that couldn’t be easily removed.
Gina Delisme She founded Nagi Cosmetics in 2012 after deciding to follow a new career path. The products are designed specifically for women of color and offer a gentle range of medium to dark skin tones.
Mented Cosmetics is known for its lipsticks. Founders K. J. Miller and Amanda E. Johnson I wanted to create a true nude lipstick for women of color so everyone can feel beautiful wearing it.
