At an event held in New York this week. Volvo The midsize EX60 is coming Electric SUVs It’s finally making its North American debut, opening U.S. orders for the 2027 model starting at $59,795 ($58,400 plus the required $1,395 destination charge) with a range of up to 400 miles, depending on the model.
At first glance, these numbers look pretty good for an electric car that sits at the premium end of its highly competitive segment. However, recent events have left the automaker in an unenviable position regarding its most important new launch.
When the Volvo pulled over Wraps off the EX60 At its global debut earlier this year, it described it as “the most important model in (the brand’s) growing electric vehicle family.” The EX60 falls into the luxury midsize SUV segment — America’s biggest automotive battleground, electric or otherwise — and follows in the EX60’s footsteps. The XC60 is combustion-poweredwhich has long been the backbone of the brand’s volume.
Volvo’s electric car rollout has been tougher than the brand would like to admit: EX30 has been discontinued In March, after market headwinds and changing political conditions made its US viability unviable, the inaugural year of the flagship EX90 was Experiencing issues.
“This looks like a make-or-break moment for the brand’s EV ambitions,” you noted in January. This assessment has not changed. What has changed is that we now have promising numbers.
The EX60 is based on Volvo’s new SPA3 platform, a dedicated electrification architecture that offers… From cell to body Integration and next generation internal electronic actuators, massive transmission and 800V electrical system. This last point is the most important Charging station: The rear-drive EX60 P6 model can add up to 155 miles in 10 minutes at a peak rate of 320 kW, going from 10% to 80% in just 16 minutes. AWD P10 and P12 push the maximum charging rate to 370 kW.
With the longest legs of the group, the P12 promises a range of up to 400 miles — enough to drive from New York to Montreal without touching the charger, according to Volvo. The base P6 manages 307 miles, while the P10 AWD cruises 322 miles. (However, keep in mind that all range and charge figures are estimates pending final EPA certification.)
More importantly, the EX60 is the first Volvo to ship with it Standard North American charging portWhich means the Tesla Supercharger network — which includes more than 29,000 stations in North America — can be accessed without an adapter. EX60 owners will still need a dongle to charge the approximately 13,000 to 17,000 public CCS (Combined Charging System) ports across the US, but this remains a real meaningful feature as the industry and infrastructure shift to NACS over the next few years.

At launch, U.S. buyers will have a choice of two powertrain options (P6 and P10 AWD) and two trim levels (Plus and Ultra) that determine how well the EX60 is equipped. The entry-level P6 Plus is priced at $59,795 and comes with Volvo’s Pilot Assist safety suite and a 21-speaker Bose system as standard.
The P6 Ultra ($66,395) steps up to add Nappa leather seats and upholstery with 28 speakers Bowers & Wilkins audio setupA power panoramic roof and heated second-row booster seats integrated into the seatbacks. Comparably equipped, but with more power and range, the P10 AWD Plus and Ultra open at $62,145 and $68,745 respectively. (All prices include mandatory $1,395 destination charge.)
Pricing has not been announced for the 670 hp EX60 P12 AWD model – the most powerful and flagship model in the range – which will be configurable at a later date.
Sticker price is competitive. The BMW iX3 starts at $62,850. Audi Q6 e-tron Priced at $65,795, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric is expected to start in the same ballpark. Volvo is purposefully undercutting the competition and competing toe-to-toe in terms of range and charging speed. Whether that’s enough to regain momentum after a faltering start to the brand’s electric vehicle program is the real question.
The EX60 can now be configured on volvocars.com. The first delivery is expected to take place later this year.
