Want to read the lyrics to a new song on YouTube Music? You’ll need a Premium subscription for that.
YouTube Music, Google Music streaming serviceputs the lyrics behind a paywall for its premium subscription. Free users will have limits on song lyrics. The premium subscription costs $11 per month and is ad-free. The subscription lets you switch between audio and video and download music for offline listening.
A YouTube representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Companies take every opportunity to get your hard-earned money by stuffing popular features behind monthly subscriptions. However, in most cases, the song’s lyrics are available for free search on Google. Here’s what I found out about how YouTube Music has changed and what’s still unknown.
Media outlets and Reddit users say that free users will be able to view song lyrics five times. When they try for the sixth time, only the first two lines of the song are shown, with the rest blocked out. People see an ad telling them they’ve reached their lyric views limit and will need to upgrade to Premium to access this feature.
YouTube Music is not alone in this. Spotify on Friday Announce New experimental feature called About the songwhich provides people with trivia and background information for many of the tracks. In the same announcement, Spotify also said that only Premium users who download songs for offline listening will be able to access the lyrics to those tracks. and Apple music It offers time-synced lyrics for a karaoke-style experience, but only for its premium users.
A 9to5Google The article mentioned that YouTube Music has already tested this feature, but YouTube has not confirmed the premium subscription change or how long the change will take.
There are also still questions about when the lyric limit will be reset for free users and when this change will be rolled out to all users. I tested YouTube Music myself on Monday and haven’t noticed the change yet.
