YouTube has a new video player

YouTube is updating the look of its video player to be “cleaner and more immersive” starting this week. “This includes updated controls and new icons to make the viewing experience more visually pleasing while blocking less content.” YouTube says. Player testing of changes has begun Earlier this year. A screenshot from YouTube shows how the new look includes rounded, on-screen buttons with a bit of transparency, though the effect isn’t as strong Apple liquid glass. YouTube says the new player will be available on mobile, web, and TV.

The company is offering a host of other updates as well. YouTube says the double-tap to skip feature will be “modern and less intrusive to the video viewing experience.” The new “organized system for comment responses” aims to “provide a more focused reading experience within the response panel.” In some videos, pressing the Like button will show a “dynamic” animation, such as a musical note when you like a music video.
