“We treat the speakers with the same care as the rest of the home, so they contribute to the ambiance and personality of the room not only through sound but also through shape, color and character,” says Sarah Ottosson, product developer at IKEA. The company collaborated with the designer and colorist Tekla Evelina Severin To achieve this, this results in devices that are nothing like what you normally think of when you think of Bluetooth speakers.
Solskydd is a set of round speakers in three different sizes that could be mistaken for serving trays. The smallest 8-inch model ($79.99) features a single 2.5-inch driver hidden behind a fabric sleeve with an orange checkerboard-inspired pattern. Despite its size, it can output up to 80.5 dB of sound and is the only portable option with a rechargeable battery rated for up to 25 hours of playback.
A slightly larger 11-inch version ($99.99) from the Solskydd combines a 1-inch woofer and a 4-inch woofer for up to 83.6 dB of sound hidden behind a green fabric front with brown and beige diagonal stripes. Like its smaller counterpart, it can be hung on the wall or mounted on the included display stand. The largest Solskydd 18-inch model ($139.99) hides a 1-inch woofer and two 4-inch woofers (producing up to 93.6 dB) behind an orange finish and is designed exclusively to be wall-mounted. The two larger options offer three different EQ settings, while all three versions of the Solskydd are also available in clean white if you prefer speakers with a more subtle design.
In addition to Bluetooth connectivity, Ikea’s speakers support Spotify Tap so you can start playing music where you left off in the streaming app, as well as multi-speaker connectivity. You can use two of them in a left and right stereo configuration to boost your TV’s sound, or connect up to 100 of them together and have them all play simultaneously to fill a larger space.
If you want even more functionality, Ikea’s new Kulglass ($129.99) combines a whimsical lamp featuring an ice cream-inspired swirl-shaped shade with a Bluetooth speaker at its base, and has a 1-inch woofer and a 3.5-inch woofer that produces up to 82.6 decibels. Unlike Solskydd speakers that rely on a pair of knobs to adjust the volume, the Kulglass bulbs, available in two finishes in shades of green or red, include a volume knob.
Specific release dates of December 2025 will vary by country, but in the US, the new headphones are not expected to be available until January 1, 2026.
