Sports will undoubtedly take over our TV time in February with… Super Bowlthe milan-cortina winter games, and the NBA All-Star Game. If you’re an Xfinity TV customer, you’ll be able to watch the Winter Olympics with features like Real time 4KFan display and multiple customizable displays. Comcast It announced its new suite of Olympics-ready features on Friday, including an AI-powered DVR function.
CNET looked at a demo of the Olympics experience, and the AI-powered DVRs stand out for their convenience. When you record something, the AI identifies the key parts, which appear as markers on the screen. I watched a replay of the opening ceremony as an example, and the signs had descriptions like “Team USA enters” to indicate what was going on.
“What we did is we used artificial intelligence to identify the most important moments at the opening ceremony, so you can access them quickly and easily without having to sift through them,” said Vito Forlenza, vice president of sports entertainment at Comcast. He added that it gives viewers control over what they watch.
Xfinity, like its sister brand Peacock, aims to create immersive and personalized viewing experiences for fans of the Winter Games, which will begin streaming on February 6. The themed homepage puts all things Milan-Cortina front and center, where viewers can choose to click on boxes to watch live Olympic events on NBC, Peacock, USA and CNBC, or search through content such as event highlights. The home screen also has a tab for the Olympics Center, which can be launched with a single tap or by speaking into the Xfinity voice remote.
Inside the center there is a row dedicated to Peacock programming, as well as access to Multiview, medal count, highlights and Fan View. You’re probably familiar with Fan View, as it was introduced last year for NBA and NFL games. Use it to choose your favorite sports and keep up with the latest stats, medals and programming. With its immersive footage, this feature can also take you to Olympic snow parks for snowboarding and snowboarding, so you’ll almost feel like you’re there.
The hack section for medal counts is updated regularly throughout the games. Fan View also has shortcuts to take you to live broadcasts, multi-view, or highlights. You can check out highlights of TikTok-style short videos and other content.
You can customize your fan show page and watch multiple shows.
Instead of relying on a preset display for Multiview, viewers can customize what they want to watch like a DIY-er. If you want all four screens to show Olympics coverage, you can. Or you can choose from other live sports, such as basketball, the NFL, or… and Olympic figure skating.
Need a better view? Zoom one game onto the Multiview screen while keeping the other three screens intact. Those who prefer not to exit Multiview can still pull up Fan View to scroll through stats or go to Comcast’s sports betting partner sites (if it’s legal where they live).
The RealTime 4K add-on announced for the Super Bowl will also be available for the Olympics, complemented by Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. On game day, the Peacock 4K feed will be included in the channel guide, and will switch from Olympic coverage to the Super Bowl when the time is right. All Xfinity customers can watch the stream.
