Wispr Flow launches Android app for AI-powered dictation

“Android has finally given us the freedom to build the voice experience we’ve always wanted. Only when the platform gets out of the way can we truly expect voice to replace typing on mobile,” said Tanai Kothari, co-founder and CEO of the startup.

The app can support translation in more than 100 languages ​​and can work across other apps. Along with the release of the Android app, Wispr Flow said it has rewritten the infrastructure that makes dictation 30% faster than before.

While there are tons of AI-powered dictation apps are available on desktop and iOSWispr Flow is one of the few programs available on Android with this launch, along with Typeless, which was launched An application for the platform last month.

Moreover, the company has also released a new model of Hinglish, a mix of Hindi and English, for people in India who are mixed speakers.

“If you’re someone like me, English and Hindi blend together when I talk to family and colleagues back home,” Kothari said. “This was one of those times when I had to create something for me: the first audio model that actually supports Hinglish transcription instead of the traditional Hindi script.”

The company noted that even with the early rollout for select users, users spoke more than 1.3 million words in the past few days.

Wispr Flow is one of the most popular startups in the AI-powered dictation app category that has also attracted significant interest from venture capital. In June, the startup teased $30 million in funding led by Menlo Ventures in June. Within a few months, in November, the company Secured $25 million in a round led by Notable Capital. Wispr Flow has raised a total of $81 million, with the latest round valued at $700 million according to sources.
