Microsoft will start rolling out the new Xbox Full Screen Experience (FSE) on Windows mobile devices on November 21. The Xbox app’s full-screen mode originally shipped on Xbox Ally consoles last month, providing a console-like navigation experience on top of Windows 11.
While Microsoft released a Preview of MSI Claw models Last month, the Xbox Full Screen experience is now generally available for all Windows mobile devices. Microsoft is Expanding too Xbox FSE “introduces more Windows 11 PC build factors through the Xbox and Windows Insider Programs.”
Xbox FSE doesn’t load the full Windows desktop or a host of background processes, freeing up more memory for games. It basically doesn’t load the Explorer shell and saves about 2GB of memory by blocking all the unnecessary parts of a typical Windows 11 installation.
If you decide to enable Xbox FSE on your mobile device or PC, it will launch directly in the Xbox PC app upon boot, which includes all PC games from the Microsoft Store, Battle.net, Steam, and other storefronts. There’s also a game bar for navigating between games and game launchers, and a task view designed to be more handheld-friendly.
To play Xbox FSE on a compatible mobile device, go to Settings > Games > Full Screen Experience, then select Xbox as your home app.
