Netflix He busted big stars in December this year. The platform will release new original films throughout the month, such as Jay Kelly, which stars George Clooney and Adam Sandler, as well as Rian Johnson’s latest mystery film Knives Out, Wake Up Dead Man, and Kate Winslet’s directorial debut, Goodbye June.
The streamer will also release several documentaries throughout the month, including All The Empty Rooms, a devastating look at gun violence in America and Breakdown: 1975, a retrospective of some of the biggest films and cultural moments from that year. The impact of journalist Seymour Hersh’s decades-long career is also examined in Cover-Up.
There are also a few great movies being added to the Netflix library this month. Starting December 1st, you can watch Quentin Tarantino’s new classic Pulp Fiction, Greta Gerwig’s Little Women, and the movie that made us all beat our chests like Matthew McConaughey, The Wolf of Wall Street. Here are some of the biggest and best movies arriving on Netflix this December.
Here’s a fun fact: the 2021 movie trolla Norwegian monster movie about a sleeping giant that wreaks havoc on the country when it is accidentally awakened, is the most-watched non-English language film on Netflix. This film is about a dwarf living deep in the Dover Mountains who is not happy about being awakened from his slumber and seeks to destroy everything from Doumbas to Doverville. And in December of this year, a new dwarf arrived in town, and just like the last dwarf, he has an angry side. Troll 2 arrives on Netflix on December 1st.
All empty rooms (December 1)
In the devastating new short documentary, All The Empty Rooms, CBS News correspondent Steve Hartman and photographer Lou Pope embark on a cross-country journey to visit and commemorate the bedrooms of children killed in school shootings. It’s a difficult watch to watch, but it’s a necessary reminder that we can do more to prevent future tragedies.
Virgin River star Alexandra Breckenridge leads the cast of the new Netflix series My Secret Santa, about a cash-strapped single mother, Taylor Jacobson, who lands a seasonal Santa job at a luxury resort. Taylor works for Mrs. Doubtfire, designing prosthetics so she can transform into that jolly old spirit in order to get the job, but her ruse gets complicated when she falls for ski resort manager Matthew (Ryan Eggold). My Secret Santa arrives on Netflix on December 3.
The New Yorker at 100 (December 5)
After a century in business, The New Yorker opens its office doors to its documentary crew for the first time in the upcoming issue of The New Yorker at 100. Documentary Marshall Curry and his team offer a rare glimpse into the inner workings and history of one of the nation’s foremost sources of journalism, fiction, poetry, and animation.
Director Noah Baumbach’s latest collaboration with Netflix is Jay Kelly, a comedy-drama starring George Clooney as the titular character; A movie star begins to reflect on his life during a trip through Europe with his manager Ron (Adam Sandler). The film was co-written by Baumbach and Emily Mortimer, who appears in the film. The supporting cast also includes Laura Dern, Riley Keough, and Billy Crudup.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Mystery (December 12)
Daniel Craig returns as Detective Benoit Blanc in Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. In the latest installment of the Knives Out series, the dapper and suave Blanc heads to a small church in upstate New York to solve a murder, accompanied by local police chief Geraldine Scott (Mila Kunis). The list of suspects is long. The cast includes Glenn Close, Josh O’Connor, Josh Brolin, Thomas Haden Church, Andrew Scott, and Kerry Washington.
In the new Japanese film 10Dance, Ryoma Takeuchi and Keita Machida play champion dancers in their field. In the midst of intense competition, the two end up teaming up in what is known as the Ten Dance, a competition in which the dancers perform five types of Latin dance and five types of standard ballroom. As the two teach each other their specialties, their rivalry turns into friendship and eventually a deeper attraction develops between them.

Director Morgan Neville has directed documentaries such as 20 Feet From Stardom, Best of Enemies and Won’t You Be My Handmaid?, and now he’s back with a new film. Breakdown: 1975 focuses on the lasting legacy of the year that gave us films like Taxi Driver, Jaws, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. The film is written by Jodie Foster and includes interviews with Martin Scorsese, Albert Brooks, Ellen Burstyn and others.
The Great Flood (December 19)
Director Kim Byung-woo leads this new disaster film about the last group of survivors struggling to stay alive amidst a global flood. Squid Game’s Park Hae-soo and Kim Da-mi star in the film, which will be released on December 19.
John Elway is considered one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. Elway is a new documentary from Skydance Sports that delves into his life and illustrious career, from his college days playing football and baseball (he was drafted by the New York Yankees in 1981) to his eventual success in the NFL with two straight Super Bowl wins with the Denver Broncos and beyond.
Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet makes her directorial debut with Goodbye June, a family drama set just before Christmas in which four adult siblings and their father are forced to deal with their ailing mother, June, who is facing a health crisis. Winslet also stars in the film alongside Toni Collette, Andrea Riseborough, Timothy Spall and Helen Mirren. It hits theaters December 12 and on Netflix December 24.
Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Seymour Hersh is responsible for exposing some of the largest cover-ups in US history, including the My Lai massacre committed by American soldiers during the Vietnam War, and the torture of prisoners at Abu Ghraib. In the new documentary Cover-Up, Hirsch’s research documents and archival footage are used Expose as well “What Hersh believes is a pattern of impunity within the US military and intelligence agencies,” and the film serves as a testament to the vital role journalism plays in global and national affairs.
Evil Influencer: The Judy Hildebrandt Story (December 30)
Jodi Hildebrandt and Robbie Franke collaborated on the parenting channel on YouTube, and were later arrested and convicted of aggravated child abuse in 2023 when two of Franke’s children were discovered to be abused and malnourished in Hildebrandt’s home. Evil Influencer: The Judy Hildebrandt Story delves into the female relationship and Hildebrandt’s influence on Frankie and her family.
