In my opinion, the best time to start watching holiday movies is when you want to start watching holiday movies. However, for most of my life, we’ve never even pressed play on a classic Black Friday. Choosing this first movie wasn’t difficult at all, because for me it was and always will be The Muppet Christmas Carol. Not only is it the greatest thing Henson Studios has put out since Jim Henson’s death, but the popularity of this film started an annual conversation about which movie you could make with the entire Muppet cast and one human actor.
If you are planning to head to… Disney Plus To watch The Muppet Christmas Carol (something you can do for much less with this Package deal), Beware of the trap in front of you. The version of the film you see when you press play in the menu is incomplete and has a song removed from it, a song many remember seeing the first time it was shown to them. Fortunately, there’s an easy way to restore it, and I’ll show you how to do it here.
Scrooge is about to sing a song in this scene, but if you haven’t seen the whole movie, it’s not a song you would have heard.
What’s missing from the Disney Plus version of The Muppet Christmas Carol? There’s an entire song missing and the scene it contains really matters to the end of the movie. In the original version of the film, Scrooge’s time with the Ghost of Christmas Past includes a longer scene between young Scrooge and his fiancée Belle. Immediately after she says “I did that once” in response to young Scrooge’s claim that he loves her, Belle breaks into a song called When Love is Gone. Not only is it a beautiful and heartbreaking scene, but Scrooge also adapts the song at the end of the film as a way to further show the character’s growth. If you watch the movie without Belle, this ending song lacks the emotional weight it was meant to provide.
