Single razor blades It is the most intense and competitive Marketed products In American capitalism. Made of steel and plastic at a low cost, however Sold for a profit of one thousand percentBarber market Subject of active academic study And discussion.
Founder of Gillette He famously modeled giving away a razor handle so he could sell the blades. Canadian startup Henson has the opposite model, $79 shipping for the razor It can give you an excellent shave using cheap disposable blades They cost about 15 cents each.
I’ve been using this Henson razor for the past three months, and it provides the best shave I’ve ever had to this point in my life. Right now, Walmart is selling the device with two years’ worth of blades for just $80. Razor blades are always a popular Christmas treat Gift for parentsThis deal will fit nicely under your tree.
Henson is a Canadian company with roots in aeronautics that contributed components to the Mars rover. The AL13 safety razor is made from forged aluminum in their Ontario store. It comes in six colors, including the classic copper color I tested.
The razor head consists of two parts that are threaded together and then compressed using the threaded handle. The handle holds the blade very firmly in place at a precise angle so the blade doesn’t fly off, which can cause skin irritation. The blade barely protrudes from the head, with an exposed edge about half the width of a hair – you’ll have to look closely to see it.
Henson razors are manufactured to tolerances as precise as 0.00025 inches, or about one-twelfth the thickness of a human hair. No plastic parts, just aluminum with stainless steel bushings. Henson specifically designed its device to work with inexpensive, generic double-edged blades sold for ten or 15 cents each—the difference here being how firmly and precisely these blades are held in place.
I’ve been using Henson for about 2 months now and have never had a better shave. I shave about every other day, and each blade lasts about a week, which means the 100 pack included here will last you two years. The shave is very close but smooth, and I barely cut myself a few times during that time. (The company paid for medical imaging that shows its razors cause one-third as much skin irritation as multi-blade razors.) Special shaving cream for $20which I somehow misplaced before I ever used it, but I got a very crisp, clean shave A box of Gillette Regular Foam, $4.
The only tip I have is that you get the best results if you loosen the handle slightly when rinsing the blades between uses, as shaved hair tends to get stuck in the space between the components and cannot be rinsed out easily.
Did I mention it’s a very nice razor? It has a machined textured handle that feels good and also provides a nice, firm grip when wet. If you’re looking to gift a personal care device – or just want to treat yourself – a Henson device at this price is a great buy.
