If you like the Opal Nugget Ice Maker As much as we doBut imagine that coveted crunchy ice in spaces that can’t accommodate a full-sized machine, you’re in luck. GE Profile will launch a mini version of its viral ice machine later this year. We got a preview of the device at KBISa huge kitchen and bath industry expo in Orlando, Florida.
The original Opal was launched in 2015 and ushered in a true phenomenon for ice makers. Others have jumped into the booming category, and we’ve tested several to curate our list from Best ice makers in 2026.
We have registered at least five colors in KBIS.
In addition to its smaller size—about half the overall dimensions and water tank size—the Opal Mini features a top-fill ice maker, eliminating the need for a side tank.
The Opal Mini can produce up to 34 pounds of nugget in one day, about the same as the original full-size model — although it will require more empties and refills to do so. It includes a filter for cleaner tasting ice and has an automatic descaling function, just like its bigger brother.
We’ve discovered five colors that this mini ice maker will be available in.
GE Profile is launching two versions of the Mini: The Mini Standard and the Mini Pro.
The colors displayed at KBIS were wide. We’ve seen at least seven colors, including black, white, stainless steel, mint green, red, yellow, and pink. The compact ice maker will be available at geappliances.com, Amazon and select retailers for a suggested retail price of $299.
